Zechariah 13

"On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness."

Zechariah 13:1

Summary

Zechariah 13 speaks about a future purification and restoration for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. The chapter begins with a promise that on that day, a fountain will be opened to cleanse them from sin and impurity. Idolatry and false prophecy will be eradicated, as both prophets and idols will no longer be tolerated among the people. God declares a profound transformation, where even false prophets will be ashamed of their visions and renounce their deceitful practices. In the latter part of the chapter, the text shifts to a prophecy describing the suffering of the shepherd and the scattering of the sheep. The Shepherd, representing a messianic figure, is struck down, leading to the dispersion of the people. Through this ordeal, a remnant will emerge refined and purified, reaffirming their covenant relationship with God.
