Overview

Paul opens by recalling how his visit to the Thessalonians was not in vain, despite suffering in Philippi (vv. 1-2). He affirms the authenticity of his proclamation, stating it was free from error and flattery, aimed at pleasing God (vv. 3-6). Paul describes his gentle approach to discipleship, likening himself to a nursing mother caring for her children (vv. 7-10). He speaks of his role in providing parental guidance, encouraging them to walk worthily of God (vv. 11-12). The Thessalonians are praised for receiving the message of God, suffering for their faith like the assemblies in Judea (vv. 13-16). Paul expresses a deep longing to connect with them, having been hindered from visiting (vv. 17-20). He sees them as his hope and joy before Jesus at His coming.
