Isaiah 45: Group Study Handout

How to use: read Isaiah 45 aloud together, then take the questions in order. One page is enough for an evening.

Overview

Yahweh addresses His anointed, Cyrus, whose right hand He has held and who will subdue nations (vv. 1-4). He affirms His sovereignty, stating that besides Him there is no other God and promising to strengthen Cyrus (vv. 5-7). Yahweh calls for righteousness, asking that the heavens and earth bring forth salvation (vv. 8-10). He asserts His creative authority, declaring His act of making the earth and commanding the heavens (vv. 11-13). The nations will recognize God’s power, as they will come to Cyrus, acknowledging that ‘God is in you’ (vv. 14-16). Israel’s everlasting salvation is promised, with assurance that they will not be disappointed (vv. 17-19). Finally, Yahweh extends an invitation to all nations to look to Him for salvation, asserting that every knee shall bow before Him (vv. 20-25).
