Psalm 148: Group Study Handout

How to use: read Psalm 148 aloud together, then take the questions in order. One page is enough for an evening.

Overview

Yahweh is praised from the heavens and the heights by heavenly beings, including angels and his army (vv. 1-2). Celestial bodies, such as the sun, moon, and shining stars, are called to join in praising Yahweh (vv. 3-4). Everything in creation responds to God's command, as they were created by his decree and established forever (vv. 5-6). Earthly creation is invited to praise him, including great sea creatures, stormy winds, mountains, hills, fruit trees, and all living things (vv. 7-10). Humanity, including kings, judges, young men, maidens, old men, and children, is called to worship Yahweh's name, which is exalted above all creation (vv. 11-13). Lastly, Yahweh honors his people, the children of Israel, and lifts up their horn, representing strength and praise (v. 14).
