Psalm 30: Group Study Handout

How to use: read Psalm 30 aloud together, then take the questions in order. One page is enough for an evening.

Overview

David extols Yahweh for raising him up and preventing his foes from rejoicing over him (vv. 1-2). He acknowledges that Yahweh has healed him and rescued him from Sheol, keeping him alive (vv. 3-4). David speaks of the nature of God's favor, noting that while God's anger is temporary, his favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes in the morning (vv. 5-8). He pleads for mercy, questioning the benefit of his destruction if he goes down to the pit and cannot praise Yahweh (vv. 9-10). David then proclaims that Yahweh has turned his mourning into dancing, removing his sackcloth and clothing him with gladness (vv. 11-12). This transformation leads David's heart to praise Yahweh and express gratitude forever.
