Psalm 57: Group Study Handout

How to use: read Psalm 57 aloud together, then take the questions in order. One page is enough for an evening.

Overview

The psalmist requests mercy from God, taking refuge in Him until danger passes (vv. 1-3). He acknowledges that God Most High will intervene and save him from his pursuers, sending His loving kindness and truth. Describing his peril, the psalmist feels surrounded by dangerous foes, comparing them to lions and weapons (vv. 4-6). Despite this, he maintains a steadfast heart and resolves to sing praises to God (vv. 7-8). He declares his intention to give thanks to God among the peoples and sing praises among the nations (vv. 9-10). The psalmist emphasizes God's great loving kindness and truth, which reaches to the heavens. He concludes with a call to exalt God above the heavens and let His glory be over all the earth (v. 11).
