Psalm 59: Group Study Handout

Overview

The psalmist cries for deliverance from enemies and workers of iniquity (vv. 1-2). They lie in wait and gather against the psalmist without cause (vv. 3-4). The psalmist notes that they return at evening like howling dogs, prowling the city (vv. 6-7). Yet, Yahweh laughs at them and scoffs at the nations (vv. 8-9). The psalmist expresses confidence that God will lead him with loving kindness and allow him to see victory over his foes (vv. 10-11). He asks God to punish the wicked for their lies and pride (vv. 12-13). Again, the enemies return in the evening, wandering for food and unsatisfied (vv. 14-15). The psalmist responds by singing of God's strength and loving kindness, calling Him his high tower and refuge (vv. 16-17).
