October 9

Friday, October 9, 2026 — today

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30 (WEB)

Finding Rest in Jesus

In Matthew 11, Jesus speaks to the crowd, extending an invitation to those burdened by life's challenges, following his critique of the unrepentant cities and his thanks to the Father for revealing truths to the humble. Jesus contrasts the heaviness of life's burdens with the lightness of his yoke, emphasizing his gentle and humble nature. This invites reflection on the actual weight of burdens we carry and the relief offered in seeking his guidance. Consider today what burdens you are carrying that could be shared with Christ, and take a moment to rest, even if just briefly, in the quiet of his promise of ease.
