Psalm 46: Group Study Handout

How to use: read Psalm 46 aloud together, then take the questions in order. One page is enough for an evening.

Overview

God is a refuge and strength for His people, offering help when troubles arise (vv. 1-3). Even as natural disasters occur, they need not fear. There is a joyful river that brings gladness to the city of God, which is His holy dwelling (vv. 4-5). God resides within her, assuring that she will not be shaken, and will receive assistance at dawn. The nations may rage and kingdoms may tremble, but when God speaks, the earth melts (vv. 6-7). The psalmist calls on others to witness the desolation God has caused on the earth, noting His ability to end wars and destroy weapons (vv. 8-9). Finally, God commands silence, affirming His sovereignty and promise to be exalted among nations and throughout the earth (vv. 10-11).
