Psalm 50: Group Study Handout

How to use: read Psalm 50 aloud together, then take the questions in order. One page is enough for an evening.

Overview

God, referred to as the Mighty One, speaks and calls the earth from sunrise to sunset (vv. 1-3). He commands the heavens and the earth to gather His people, the saints, who have made a covenant with Him by sacrifice (vv. 4-6). Yahweh testifies against Israel, stating He does not rebuke them for their sacrifices but questions their understanding of true offerings (vv. 7-12). He states that He desires the sacrifice of thanksgiving and a call in times of trouble (vv. 13-15). In contrast, God condemns the wicked for claiming His statutes while disregarding His instructions, associating with thieves and slanderers (vv. 16-21). He warns those who forget God of severe consequences, while promising salvation to those who offer genuine praise (vv. 22-23).
