Overview

In 2 Chronicles chapter 19, King Jehoshaphat of Judah returns to his palace in Jerusalem after an alliance with the unfaithful King Ahab of Israel. Disturbed by this alliance, the prophet Jehu warns Jehoshaphat about his actions, reminding him of God's disapproval of the wickedness in Ahab's house. Deeply moved, Jehoshaphat seeks to reform his kingdom by instituting judicial reforms that emphasize righteousness and adherence to the Law of God. He appoints judges throughout the fortified cities of Judah, instructing them to administer justice fairly, reminding them that they serve under the watchful eye of God, and are accountable for their decisions. Jehoshaphat's commitment to promote God’s law marks a significant renewal of faith in his reign and a call for repentance and faithfulness among the people.
